What was your life like before TopMusicGuitar?

My name is Vanessa Munns, and I am an instrumental music teacher in the small town of Beacon, Western Australia.

My main instrument is piano, but I also teach guitar and violin, or whatever other instruments that students around here would like to have a go at.

I am a self-taught guitarist and I have had a lot of music training. But when it came to teaching kids using the method books, it drove me nuts.

The techniques I knew were not working, and I did not enjoy them. You could see that it was not gelling with the students as well as I was wanting it to.

What changed for you after working with TopMusicGuitar?

Since I started with TopMusicGuitar, I have been a lot more excited to teach. I am now at a point where I want to develop more and just grow as a person and a business.

That is where I am at now, and it is just amazing. The connections that I have with the wider teaching community are phenomenal. It is reassuring for me to get feedback from my connections that what I am doing is right.

What are your favourite resources from TopMusicGuitar?

I found the masterclasses that TopMusicGuitar hosts invaluable. It was so refreshing to see that the stuff I was dealing with was exactly the same thing other guitar teachers are dealing with.

As a self-taught guitarist, it was good to know that I was on the right track. I am trying to do the right thing by my students because I want them to be excited. Getting to that point was exciting for me as well!

Is TopMusicGuitar worth the investment?

TopMusicGuitar is worth the investment, even if it is just to refresh your ideas, to gain new methodology, or to learn how to teach the guitar in a modern way.

Most of these kids do not want to play classical music. The modern approach of layering pieces for strumming so the kids can play their favourite piece right from the beginning really works.

I just love seeing the kids’ eyes light up when they can play their favourite song. They have that feeling of “I’m playing along, I’m cool!”

Would you recommend TopMusicGuitar?

I would recommend TopMusicGuitar to those teachers who want to refresh how they teach, especially if they do not want to be stuck in the dark ages of guitar teaching.

TopMusicGuitar will help you add a modern aspect to your teaching, because most kids just want to strum along to their favourite band or piece.
