Essential Teaching Concepts for Modern Guitar Teachers

What it takes to be an excellent modern guitar teacher

When it comes to teaching guitar, the biggest influence we’ll ever have is our own guitar teacher. This can be an awesome experience both for our guitar playing and teaching if we had a great teacher, but can also be severely limiting to our playing and detrimental to our own teaching if we had an inexperienced teacher who may become our only experience of how guitar should be taught. This course will bring your attention to essential, educational and even psychological concepts that you can implement into your teaching to become a truly wonderful modern guitar teacher.

Welcome to Essential Teaching Concepts for Modern Guitar Teachers!

Michael Gumley, here. Music teaching is one of the oldest professions in the world but hasn’t really developed that much in the last 1,000 years. We wouldn’t take 1920s health advice or 1960s medical advice because we know so much more than we did back then and have had huge developments in the fields of both science and education, yet musical education has barely changed in the last 100 years and many of people use dated teaching methods simply because they don’t know any better. My aim in this course is to bring your attention to essential, educational and even psychological concepts that you can implement into your teaching to become a truly wonderful modern guitar teacher.
